recording engineer, Norman "Hurricane" Smith, passed away early morning today. He was 85.

Congratulations to the White Sox. They earned it playing steady, by the book, baseball. It was refreshing to watch them let their pitchers complete games. That's baseball! More relievers, means more stoppages. Baseball is best when it moves along.

On Whether Mientkiewicz Should Keep The Ball
I think he should be able to keep the ball. Did the Angels ask their centerfielder Darin Erstad for the ball he caught to end the 2002 world series? Did the Yankees demand that third baseman Charlie Hayes return the final out of the '96 world series? No. And they shouldn't have.

The average life span of a Major League baseball is 7 pitches? in the old days of baseball (till the mid-1920s), they used one ball for the entire game, retrieving foul balls and home runs from the stands when necessary. the balls themselves were quite dark at the end of a game as the pitchers put dirt on them to give them more of a grip.
