I wrote this song in a hotel room in San Diego while on a publicity trip for one of my books. The players mentioned in the song are germane to when I wrote it in 1998.

"There's Nothing Like The Game Of Baseball"

Seth Swirsky

There’s nothing like the game of baseball
On a red hot summer’s day.
There’s nothing like the game of baseball,
Say grab a bat, let’s play!

You can have Dennis Rodman, Shaq and Karl Malone,
Just give me Griffey and McGwire, Cal, and David Cone.
There’s nothing like the game of baseball, oh no.

There’s nothing like the sound of baseball,
“Strike three, your out!”
There’s nothing like the smell of baseball,
Gimme two, with sauerkraut.
Even if your team is playing worse than bad
It’s a way to spend a couple of hours with your dad
What in the world could be better than that?

I know that hockey is exciting and that football is tough
Still, I’d rather see The Rocket when he’s really got his stuff.
Or Gwynn and Caminiti hitting in the clutch, so sweet (so sweet).

There’s something about the game of baseball…

Winter’s not so bad now come to think of it,
Gives me time to reminisce and oil up my mitt
Even Michael Jordan would just have to admit,
There’s nothing like the game of baseball.
There’s nothing like the game of baseball.
There’s nothing like the great ‘ol American game,
Baseball.
