Dahlgren
and Minor, Streak-Enders
From June 1, 1925 until May 2, 1939, Lou Gehrig
played in an astonishing 2,130 straight games. It
was a record that everyone was sure would stand
for all-time. That was until Cal Ripken, Jr. started
his own consecutive games played streak on June
5, 1982. Cal's streak lasted until the final day
of the 1998 season (an astonishing total of 2,632
games played consecutively), when he voluntarily
ended it.
This is the ball signed by the two guys who replaced
Gehrig and Ripken Jr. -- Babe Dahlgren and Ryan
Minor, respectively.
Lou Gehrig, left, with Babe Dahlgren --
the man who replaced him at first base.
Ryan Minor -- the man who replaced Cal Ripken
Jr. when Ripken voluntarily stopped his consecutive-games
played streak at 2632 games.
