Larry Jansen, the Giants' winning pitcher that day

To the left of his signature Jansen wrote, "Winning pitcher, Oct. 3, 1951. N.Y. Giants 5, Brooklyn Dodgers, 4. Shot heard around the world." To the left of Jansen's inscription is Don Newcombe's signature. Under the Rawlings logo, he wrote, "Bkyn starter that day."

Ralph Branca replaced Newcombe in the 9th and gave up Thomson's home run. He wrote, "He hit the ball over the wall!"

The Shot Ball

On October 3, 1951, the Brooklyn Dodgers and the N.Y. Giants faced off in their final playoff game to determine the National League Pennant winner. Both teams had won one game. In the last of the 9th, with the Giants down 4-1, they rallied back, capped off by Bobby Thomson's stunning three run home run off Dodger reliever Ralph Branca. Known as the “shot heard 'round the world” game, many of its key participants have signed this ball.

Over Branca's inscription, is the signature of Clyde Sukeforth, the Brooklyn coach who recommended to Chuck Dressen, Brooklyn's manager, that Branca be sent in.
