The
End of Joe D's Streak
On July 17, 1941, Joe DiMaggio's hitting streak
came to an end with the help of some terrific fielding
by Indians third baseman Ken Keltner. Keltner and
DiMaggio, forever linked in baseball history by
the streak, both signed the sweetspot of this ball,
along with Cleveland shortstop Lou Boudreau who
started the double play on DiMaggio in the 8th inning.
Cleveland shortstop wrote,
"Started the double play that ended Joe's 56
game streak - Lou Boudreau"
In the panel below the sweetspot, Keltner wrote,
"I got a police escort out of the stadium after
stopping Joe's 56 game hitting streak." |
