He
Played While Lincoln Watched
This is Cornelius Savage who has the distinction
of having played baseball in the backyard of the
White House with President Lincoln as a spectator.
Mr. Savage was born in New York and he remembers
many details of the life of the great president.
On one occasion President Lincoln intervened on
behalf of several boys who were ordered to stop
playing ball on the White House grounds by the public
building officer. The gentleman above happened to
be one of the boys. 8/11/21 |
