This baseball is signed by the 1968 World Champion Detroit Tigers. Notice that Casey Stengel, longtime manager of the Yankees, has signed the ball. In spring training, before the '68 season had begun, Casey was at a Tigers game and probably signed it there.

Hero of '68

In the 1968 World Series, The Detroit Tigers went up against the powerful Bob Gibson-led St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series. The Cards, led by the base-stealing heroics of Lou Brock, jumped out to a 3 games to 1 lead. Then, the Tigers made a dramatic comeback, culminating with a triple by Tiger center fielder Jim Northrup in the seventh inning of the final game to snatch the Series away from the stunned Cardinals. This is the jersey that the clutch Northrup (who had 5 grand slams that season alone) was wearing when he hit that triple.
