Richard Nixon's Letter to Jimmie Foxx's Daughter
A week before the 1972 Watergate break in, President
Richard Nixon sat down with his son-in-law David
Eisenhower and, together, they made a list of
who they considered to be the greatest baseball
players of all time.
When the list was complete, the President had
a gold embossed booklet printed that named the
choices. Their choice for the greatest first baseman
pre-World War II was the "The Beast"
Jimmie Foxx of the slugging Philadelphia A's.
This is the letter that Nixon sent to Foxx's
daughter, Nancy Canaday, informing her that he
had chosen her father as baseball's greatest first
baseman.

The great slugger Jimmie Foxx, chosen by Nixon
for his greatest all-time baseball team. |
